The Seed Of Abraham II

Before we move forward let’s read once again the covenant God made with Abraham:

Genesis 22:15-19

“Then the Angel of the LORD called to Abraham a second time out of heaven, 16 and said: “By Myself I have sworn, says the LORD, because you have done this thing, and have not withheld your son, your only son— 17 blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply your descendants as the stars of the heaven and as the sand which is on the seashore; and your descendants shall possess the gate of their enemies. 18 In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed My voice.” 19 So Abraham returned to his young men, and they rose and went together to Beersheba; and Abraham dwelt at Beersheba.”

It says here seed and not seeds. Who was that seed? Yes, it was referring to Jesus. As a matter of fact when we trace the lineage of Jesus it traces right back to Abraham. You can trace Jesus’ Lineage in Matthew 1:1-17

Ok, so let’s now read about this promise in the book of Galatians:

Galatians 3:1-18

“O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you that you should not obey the truth, before whose eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed among you as crucified? 2 This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? 3Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh? 4 Have you suffered so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? 5 Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?— 6 just as Abraham “believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.” 7 Therefore know that only those who are of faith are sons of Abraham. 8 And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel to Abraham beforehand, saying, “In you all the nations shall be blessed.” 9 So then those who are of faith are blessed with believing Abraham. 10 For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse; for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who does not continue in all things which are written in the book of the law, to do them.” 11 But that no one is justified by the law in the sight of God is evident, for “the just shall live by faith.” 12 Yet the law is not of faith, but “the man who does them shall live by them.” 13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 15 Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it. 16 Now to Abraham and his Seed were the promises made. He does not say, “And to seeds,” as of many, but as of one, “And to your Seed,” who is Christ. 17 And this I say, that the law, which was four hundred and thirty years later, cannot annul the covenant that was confirmed before by God in Christ, that it should make the promise of no effect. 18 For if the inheritance is of the law, it is no longer of promise; but God gave it to Abraham by promise.”

We could underline that word bewitched – it comes from the Greek baskainó, and here is what it means:

"To slander, to prate about anyone;" then "to bring evil on a person by feigned praise, or mislead by an evil eye, and so to charm, bewitch." It is used figuratively in Galatians 3:1, of leading into evil doctrine.

Do you realize that there are some folks who cannot have anything go right for them? Everything they do ends up wrong, they could never get ahead in life, never settle down and do anything with any sort of focus. They get married and divorce over and over again. They keep getting fired from their jobs, get into accidents, getting into bad deals, and the list can go on and on. Sometimes they even change locations hoping that their fortunes would change and that the same set of unfortunate circumstances would not repeat themselves, but lo and behold they keep occurring – this is what is know as being bewitched!

Genesis 15:1-6

“After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.” 2 But Abram said, “Lord GOD, what will You give me, seeing I go childless, and the heir of my house is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3 Then Abram said, “Look, You have given me no offspring; indeed one born in my house is my heir!” 4 And behold, the word of the LORD came to him, saying, “This one shall not be your heir, but one who will come from your own body shall be your heir.” 5 Then He brought him outside and said, “Look now toward heaven, and count the stars if you are able to number them.” And He said to him, “So shall your descendants be.” 6 And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.”

I am your shield and exceedingly great reward – wow… that meant two things:

  1. Shield – Military might
  2. Great reward – Financial blessings and all that you need…

And Abraham believed in the Lord and God accounted that to him for righteousness! Please remember that Abraham was a mankind just like us, and God spoke to him similar to how He speaks to us…

Not only that, but God spoke to Abraham about a child, not when he just got married and was in his prime. No, He spoke to him about children when he was now old and both he and his wife’s reproductive systems were now old and not working… I mean Abraham was dead and even if he could have gotten some Viagra, it still would not have worked because his wife’s womb was also dead… And that was the condition that God spoke to him, and Abraham BELIEVED IN GOD… And the rest is now history…

So remember that we, the Church (comprising both Jews and Gentiles) are the SEED of Abraham. Now let us see how this came about… Turn with me to the following:

Romans 4:9-16

“Does this blessedness then come upon the circumcised only, or upon the uncircumcised also? For we say that faith was accounted to Abraham for righteousness. 10 How then was it accounted? While he was circumcised, or uncircumcised? Not while circumcised, but while uncircumcised. 11 And he received the sign of circumcision, a seal of the righteousness of the faith which he had while still uncircumcised, that he might be the father of all those who believe, though they are uncircumcised, that righteousness might be imputed to them also, 12 and the father of circumcision to those who not only are of the circumcision, but who also walk in the steps of the faith which our father Abraham had while still uncircumcised. 13 For the promise that he would be the heir of the world was not to Abraham or to his seed through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. 14 For if those who are of the law are heirs, faith is made void and the promise made of no effect, 15 because the law brings about wrath; for where there is no law there is no transgression. 16 Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all” 17 (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed—God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did; 18 who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.” 19 And not being weak in faith, he did not consider his own body, already dead (since he was about a hundred years old), and the deadness of Sarah’s womb. 20 He did not waver at the promise of God through unbelief, but was strengthened in faith, giving glory to God, 21 and being fully convinced that what He had promised He was also able to perform. 22 And therefore “it was accounted to him for righteousness.” 23 Now it was not written for his sake alone that it was imputed to him, 24 but also for us. It shall be imputed to us who believe in Him who raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead, 25 who was delivered up because of our offenses, and was raised because of our justification.

So are we seeing this? The Promise came to Abraham while he was uncircumcised… Circumcision came in afterwards as a seal for his righteousness – so that he might be the father of all who believe. WOW, God thought of everything long before it even occurred. He truly knows the end from the beginning…

But not only that – this PROMISE, was that Abraham and his SEED would be heir to the world!

We need to escalate our faith to believe the Lord for more than we currently have and walk in. This is the hour to not only see what the Scripture is saying to us as the Church but to also walk in and inherit this promise.

“Who contrary to hope, in hope believed” – wow, this man did not accept anything except what God spoke to him. We need to be the same way, when God speak to us we need to believe against all opposition. It does not matter what the doctor says, what economics is saying, what the world is saying – NO, no, no we are to believe the word of the Lord and decree it and confess it… This is what makes us the seed of Abraham – we DO NOT WAVER from the word of God.

So then FAITH does not come through circumcision! FAITH comes through believing God!

We are the SEED of Abraham and we are to possess the earth!

So then, how do we become the SEED of Abraham? Through our FAITH!!!

But not only that: we must also possess the Spirit of Christ…

Galatians 3:15-18, 26-29

“Brethren, I speak in the manner of men: Though it is only a man’s covenant, yet if it is confirmed, no one annuls or adds to it.

“26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27 For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. 29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.”

Ok, so let’s move on… go with me to the next chapter Ephesians 4

“But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, 5 to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. 6 And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, “Abba, Father!” 7 Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ.”

Here are a few things that we have as the SEED of Abraham

  1. We have the Spirit of God…
  2. We are possessors of the world…
  3. We cannot be cursed… 4: We are conquerors and victors…
  4. We have full rights and access to God the Father…
  5. We can put the enemy under our feet…
  6. God will fight our battles for us…
  7. We have a special relationship with God…

By being the Seed of Abraham you and I have a special relationship and a special place in the heart and mind of God. Remember that when God announced Himself he announced Himself as the God of Abraham!

In essence God had a very special relationship with Abraham and by extension Abraham’s SEED. Abraham was called the friend of God… so are we, as the SEED of Abraham we are the friends of God…

So when God stepped out of eternity and into time He revealed Himself to Abraham – remember this that the only way for us to know God is that He MUST reveal Himself to us. He has the power, ability, and authority to step out of the Spirit world and reveal Himself to us however He chooses. (For example, He can step out of the Spirit world and into the natural as a doctor when we need healing, He can step into our world as a financier when we need resources, as military might when we need protection, etc…) – as the following:

Genesis 15:1

“After these things the word of the LORD came to Abram in a vision, saying, “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your exceedingly great reward.”

I am your shield and exceeding great reward – as we saw earlier, God is our Protection and our Provider

Another note about Abraham was the extent of his wealth, let’s look at Genesis 13:1-6 Look at the level of these men prosperity – can you understand this? And we are the Seed of Abraham!!!

“Then Abram went up from Egypt, he and his wife and all that he had, and Lot with him, to the South. 2 Abram was very rich in livestock, in silver, and in gold. 3 And he went on his journey from the South as far as Bethel, to the place where his tent had been at the beginning, between Bethel and Ai, 4 to the place of the altar which he had made there at first. And there Abram called on the name of the LORD. 5 Lot also, who went with Abram, had flocks and herds and tents. 6 Now the land was not able to support them, that they might dwell together, for their possessions were so great that they could not dwell together.”

Are you seeing this? Now I do not want to present this as if this is all there was to Abraham – just as a man of incredible wealth. There were many more aspects to his life, but this is one area that many do not see or want to see… So I would like to highlight this area a bit…

Now, Abraham did not start off that way (as a super-wealthy man). When God spoke to him he packed up what he had and left his home country. He even dwelt when there was a famine and he had to go into Egypt. But as he walked with God he became wealthy. Hear me we cannot be walking with God and not believe that God wants to bless us financially. Yes, our Father wants us to have His many blessings. He wants to be our Protector and our Provider and it is accessed through FAITH. Faith like our father Abraham had.

Now, these men (Abraham and Lot) were so wealthy – it is like your bank telling you that they cannot take any more of your money. And this is so because you have been putting so much more into the bank that they cannot afford to pay you the interest. Because with the interest that they have to pay you they just cannot make any profits! Or if you were to remove your cash from the bank then it would collapse.

But this is the point that really touches my heart – even though Abraham was that rich he never, ever wanted to be disobedient to God.

So as the Seed of Abraham we must believe that the Lord wants to protect and prosper us. Are you hearing me? Yes, God desires to prosper us! Oh you may not be there right now but you have FAITH and the faith like Abraham, so stand up and believe God to prosper you.

Please also understand this – as the Seed of Abraham we cannot be cursed…

Even to this day the Israelites are a force to be reckoned with. A tiny, tiny nation surrounded by several hostile nations, which have been trying and CANNOT beat or remove Israel. Can you figure that? Belief is a powerful thing… They believe that they are the seed of Abraham and as the seed of Abraham no one can conquer them. And even though we know that this is not entirely true, as WE, the Church, are the true SEED of Abraham…

After all they have the history to prove it. They were in Egypt and were relegated to a “shanty town village” called Goshen and when God began to rain down plague after plague upon the land none of those plagues came close to them. And as such they know that God is well able to take care of them, so they believe that they can live in hostile territory and not be defeated. That is how we need to think – as the SEED of Abraham we cannot be cursed!

So let us lift our expectations…

  1. We can certainly live a debt-free life. It may not be so now but we can believe God to see that change…
  2. Sickness and disease must not live in our bodies and torment us. It may not be so right now, but we could believe God to change this for us…

So as we close this brief teaching, remember we, the Church is the rightful Seed of Abraham because we are the Body of Jesus Christ. So let us rise up and claim all that the Father has given to us. All that belongs to us to walk and function in…
